The heart of Provence

In the heart of Provence, a short distance from Avignon, lies Le Clos Saint Saourde. Named after a spring (saourde in Provençal) that's found in its grounds, it's a cluster of beautiful buildings nestled among the vineyards of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise.

There's a farmhouse (with two rooms and two suites – all seemingly carved out of the rock surrounding them, above), and a dry-stone holiday cottage called La Grange (which sleeps 8-10 people, below).

New this summer, however, is a spectacular Treehouse. Supported on stilts, it looks out over the Dentelles de Montmirail.

You can take in the view through the large bay window, or from the heated spa on its terrace.

Inside, the treehouse theme continues. Created from wood and stone, it's sprinkled with antique objects from Asia.

And all the creature comforts are there too – a queen-size bed, as well as a flat-screen TV, a mini bar, internet access, air conditioning and two large Italian showers.

From its terrace, there's a 45-meter walkway that follows the canyon back to the farmhouse and swimming pool. I don't know about you, but I've practically packed my bags… RM
