SoHo in New Orleans
‘Design with an edge, at first concealed then subtly revealed.’ This is one of the ways Loft 523 describes itself. A converted dry goods warehouse, just blocks from the French Quarter in New Orleans, the hotel looks more like an apartment building you might come across in SoHo.
While most hotels in this neighborhood try to preserve the French mansion style, Loft 523 flies in the face of it. There are 18 studio loft apartments, instead of traditional hotel rooms, all large, minimal and contemporary.
And if that looks and sounds a bit too pared down, don’t worry. The hotel is attached to the International House, its grander sister hotel a block away – which offers a restaurant, gym and wifi.
As with many urban design hotels, Loft 523 is surrounded by nightlife, and guests note it’s not really the place to stay if you want to be tucked up in bed by 9pm. Perfect for night owls though. RM
