Privacy and Pampering
At first glance, this Koh Samui destination looks like yet another drop-dead gorgeous Thai resort. Then you discover it isn’t. You can stay there, but YL Residence No 17 is actually the island’s largest private home, available for rent in its entirety.
One of South East Asia’s most sought-after luxury destinations, YL Residence consists of a main house, with library, games room, cocktail bar, pool, and a variety of dining spaces – as well as ten individual villas with ocean-facing views.
Scattered across 12.5 acres of idyllic landscape, it offers abundance and five-star concierge service, with little luxuries like fresh flowers and tropical fruit delivered daily, and complimentary champagne and massage upon arrival.
YL Residence’s aesthetic is cool white, surrounded in the scent of frangipani, soft white secluded beaches, and the tranquil turquoise waters of the Gulf of Siam. Designed by architect Martin Palleros of Tierra Design, it features pared-down design with natural furnishings and hi-tech fixtures.
Obviously, with its $5,000-per-night price tag, it’s perfect for events like weddings, but it’s also a great idea for, say, ten couples meeting for a reunion.
For the price, you get full use of the residence and gardens, as well as all of its facilities. You also get full staff (including chefs Reuben Kimber and Graham Brundle, who have also worked for the King of Jordan, and Richard Branson on Necker Island), shuttles to and from the airport, mini bar and breakfast every day.
It’s like the most exclusive hotel you’ve ever stayed at, without all the other guests. Sounds like heaven. RM
