Laos is not one of those countries that tourists regularly beat a path to, so it's great to read about the Mekong Estate, a new 'smart dwelling concept' in the north of the country. Located in the former royal capital of Luang Prabang along the Mekong River, it's a complex of dwellings available to rent by the week or month.
Luang Prabang is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Mekong Estate seeks to reflect the beauty of the city in its colonial Laos style. The apartments of Residence Ban Saylom all overlook the river, have terrace-balconies and gardens, and access to a 25m infinity pool.
Separate from this is Residence Ban Vat Nong, made up of three duplexes, and private residence Maison Damis. Villa Saynam, the most luxurious of all is a four-suite rental surrounded in tropical vegetation, with chambermaids, chauffeur-guides, cooks and gardeners at your beck and call.
Perfect for playing the aristocratic expat. RM
