Me Tarzan

Travellers with a head for heights, how about staying atop a 200-year-old banyan tree? The Green Magic Treehouse Resort in Kerala, India, does have conventional land-locked lodges, but when there are two treehouses on offer, why keep your feet on the ground?

Reached by basket lift and hanging bridges, the treehouses are at least 90ft above the rainforest, but miraculously also have flushing toilets and running water. If you're worried about their safety, it may reassure you to know that they were built by local Paniya tribesmen, who have years of experience making treetop sleeping platforms. In other words, they will sway in the breeze, but little more.

The resort is reached by winding track, and is half an hour's journey by jeep from Vythiri through cardamom, ginger, and coffee plantations. Watch out for elephants in your headlights.
