House in the Clouds

As pictures go, this one is pretty unexciting. A little red house with a white chimney. Big deal. Well, if you check out the next picture, you'll see why it's so interesting…

Still not clear?

The House in the Clouds is a 70ft-high folly in the English village of Thorpeness, Suffolk, originally designed in 1923 as a water tower. From miles around it looks like a house floating above the trees. When it was built, the cottage at the top could store 50,000 gallons of water, and, rather precariously, living accommodation was built directly below it, in the tower's stand. Today, it's a rental property, available by the night or by the week throughout the year. RM

The hotel reminds me of a birdhouse for some reason.

Suffolk has lots of quirky and interesting places to stay, including half-timbered, crooked houses in Lavenham!
