Go with the flow

Hotel Q.................................(3007.jpg)

The darling of design mags, Hotel Q! in Berlin is scoring lots of points for its sleek lines and innovative looks. Think wave forms – ceilings that flow into walls, floors than flow into furniture, and (remarkably) beds that flow into baths. Walls become furniture. Furniture becomes walls. There's a complete absence of hard lines, and the hotel is coated in deep red, giving it an almost cocoon-like ambience.

Q! was created by Loock Hotels, who already run the city's Hotel Hackescher Markt, and designed by hipsters GRAFT, favorites in the celebrity world, best-known for creating Brad Pitt's Hollywood Hills studio and the Pink Project.

The hotel has 72 rooms, four studios and a penthouse, plus all the techy gadgetry you could ever want, from wi-fi to plasma TVs and borrowable laptops. The central element of each room is – rather unusually – the bath, which has been integrated into the sleeping area.

If you need to relax even more, head for the spa, with its sauna and Japanese wash zone. There's also a sand room, with white sand warmed to room temperature, as well as more flowy stuff, this time in the form of aromatherapy scents and soft music.

Once you're done unwinding, you can hit the private member's bar, which is currently one of the city's hottest night spots. Then head back to the spa the next morning to unwind again… RM
