Fresh Hotel

Mamma Mia may have everyone flocking to the Greek islands but, for an alternative to whitewashed homes poured down rocky hillsides, check out this cool hotel in central Athens. Appropriately named, Fresh Hotel is probably the opposite of that every moviegoer would expect of Greece right now.

Now Greek hotels are often known for their minimalism – aka bare rooms with a pine bed, the odd chair, and not much else. But this is a different kind of simplicity – clean contemporary lines and vivid colors.

Located in downtown Athens, with easy reach of the Acropolis, Fresh is a stylish yet unconventional hangout, with 133 rooms and suites.

In tribute, perhaps, to Greece’s most famous export, Fresh has olive trees scattered around the building. It also has a rooftop pool and bar, with stunning views of the city.

And an ice club. Yes, you heard that right. Fresh’s Ice Club is a vodka bar that’s literally on ice. Thirty tons of it - the bar, the walls, two live stages and a DJ (though I suspect he’s not frozen).

Served up with Russian vodka Imperia from 8pm to 4am. That’s about as fresh as it gets. RM

I’m working right across the street from this hotel. It’s quite cool inside, though a bit expensive. Also, don’t think this is in the nicest area in town. It’s right NEXT to the nice area of town. Next door to the Fresh Hotel is a brothel.
