Affordable luxury. That's what Citizen M is all about. Yes, it's a strange name for a hotel chain, but it may make more sense once we explain… Citizen M (the 'M' stands for 'mobile') is a revolutionary idea for overnight accommodation that's about to hit Holland. Citizen M, we are told, is a person who travels – a lot – and doesn't want to pay a fortune for accommodation. However, they still expect stylish design and cool gizmos. So Citizen M (the hotel, that is) has cut out the marble flooring and piano man in the lobby and gone for 'friendly technology', approachability and humor. Basically, it's another pod hotel that has cut back on space and given you toys instead.
Citizen M opens at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport in 2008, the second will be near the city's World Trade Centre, and many more are planned all over Europe. Bookings will be accepted from the end of October. RM
