Big in Japan
I have a huge soft spot for Japanese design, everything from ridiculously cute little gadgets to ancient buildings. And for the latter it would be hard to beat Kyoto. Here’s a striking new hotel for people like me, Funatsuru Kyoto Kamogawa Resort.
A refurbished 18th-century building among the merchant and tea houses of the historic Gion (or geisha) district, it has retained its orginal facade and some original features like tatami bedrooms. However, the hotel’s communal areas have been given a contemporary makeover.
It’s hard to find out much information about the hotel in English, but it seems to have a great restaurant and be a popular locations for weddings. If anyone knows more about it, we’d love to hear from you. RM
