A New ‘View’ in Monument Valley
Talk about a well-named hotel. The newly-opened View is the only hotel in Monument Valley, and it boasts spectacular panoramas.
Its Navajo owners (Monument Valley is a Navajo Nation Tribal Park) claim the view from each guest room is unlike anywhere else in the world and worth a journey across the globe to see. There are 95 rooms over three floors, each with a private eastern-facing balcony looking out over the ‘mittens’. The top floor boasts StarView rooms that overlook the whole Valley and offer unspoilt views of the sky as well.
The aim of the hotel is to blend with the surroundings and reflect the values of the Navajo Nation. Hence, room decor features Navajo rugs and traditional dye charts, and the hotel has foregone the ubiquitous swimming pool. ‘Visitors to the region,’ they explain, ‘may not understand that the Navajo residents on the valley floor must continue to haul water daily and The View management doesn’t feel using water for a swimming pool is appropriate when local families don’t have running water for basic living.’
Good call. Who needs a pool when you have a view like this? RM
