It seems like everyone is trying to invent a new way to get around these days. Dutch invention Wheelsurf is hardly a replacement for your gas-guzzler – it was created purely for fun. It's hard to figure out what it does just by looking at it, but it's described as a 'single-wheeled, ride-inside conveyance'. A what?

To clarify, it has an inner and an outer frame. The inner frame is linked to the outer by three small wheels. It's the outer frame, a solid rubber tire, that rotates. The rider sits inside the inner frame, alongside the engine, drive train and petrol tank (yes, it runs on gas).

You steer the Wheelsurf by shifting your weight, forwards to move and backwards to brake, sideways to turn. It has a hand brake as well, but you're warned that if you brake too hard, you'll start spinning with the outer wheel. Which is, of course, exactly what most people will want to do. Except for the sweet old lady pictured above, though I may be completely wrong. RM

I remember seeing a slightly more aggressive version of this back in the 70′s, powered by a 750cc block. The owner reckoned it would do around a 140mph.
