When the Prius came out a few years ago, we probably all wondered if we'd have to sacrifice style for energy efficiency. Now, all of a sudden, it seems like we're being inundated with cool alternatives to gas guzzlers. Take this fantastic little three-wheel plug-in hybrid called the VentureOne. Created by Venture Vehicles in Los Angeles, it's halfway between a motorcycle and a sports car, reaching speeds of over 100 mph while getting up to 100 miles per gallon.
Like a motorcycle, it tilts to a 45-degree angle as it goes round corners, but like a car it has a steel safety shell, side impact beams and an airbag. It also has a 360-degree glass canopy windscreen, which makes for great visibility.
Although it looks smaller, it's the same size as a Mini Cooper and the seats keep both driver and passenger at the same height as a normal vehicle. Two versions are planned: a hybrid with a four-gallon fuel tank, as well as a fully electric version. And yes, sadly, we did say 'planned'. The VentureOne is still in production, but we'll keep you posted if we hear that has changed.
