Italy by Vintage Car
Italy and cars… they kind of go together. So it's fun (but not entirely surprising)to discover Italy by Vintage Car. A unique tour company born from the love of classic cars, it offers travelers the chance to drive vintage cars through the Italian countryside, stay at fabulous country hotels and sample delicious cuisine.
Here's how it works. You're given a classic Alfa Romeo, Fiat or Lancia from the Fifties, Sixties or Seventies, and a route through the countryside, say from Rome to Milan, along the Amalfi Coast, or through Tuscany. There are stops for lunch and interesting venues like wineries and markets. You're not alone – there are usually three or four other cars, plus a host, making the trip with you, but you're free to wander off the schedule as much as you'd like.
Overnight stays are arranged at palaces, castles, Patrician villas, classic Grand Hotels or relais. While you dine (or sleep), the group's valet checks your tires and engine, washes and polishes the car, and fills it with gas. You don't even have to worry about your suitcase. Just pack it and it will follow you from hotel room to hotel room. Nice idea. RM
