Holiday in a camper van
We absolutely love this idea. Take a trip back in time in a classic VW camper van. Stick The Mamas & The Papas on your iPod, plug it in and hit the open road. 7°W (Seven Degrees West), a company in Bristol, England, is offering four brand new VW type II camper vans for rental. Started by a family who have been roadtripping for years around the South West of England, 7°W is run by incredibly helpful father and son team Andrew and Ben Purcell, who want to share the experiences they have had and create a community of like-minded VW fans.
The four vans all have names – Cromarty, Rockall, Malin and Dogger. They sleep up to four, and have a ‘drive away awning’ so you can sleep more. Each is equipped with roof bars for surf boards, kayaks, etc; seating for six inside; stove, fridge and sink; CD/iPod dock stereo; (unbelievably) a fold-out, king-size bed; and a double bed in the raising roof.
Rates are very affordable – starting at 250 GBP for a weekend. And to show how committed they are to preserving the environment, 7°W will plant a tree every time you rent a van – over its lifetime it will cancel out the carbon used in your trip.
Suggested road trips? Explore the amazing coastline of Devon and Cornwall, park at the beach and fly a kite – or invite all of your friends, rent the entire fleet and stay up all night round a campfire. RM
