Unusual Destinations in Turkey

World travelers, like gamblers, are always looking for the next great adrenaline rush. Whether it is a locale rich in history or a gambling destination with lot of high stakes action, travelers are on the hunt for the next big thing. World travelers looking for a thrill in Turkey will not find any fancy casino destinations due to the fact that gambling is illegal, but what they will find is some of the most unusual destinations on the planet. Here are some of those destinations.

Pamukkale

The terraced pools at Pamukkale are one of the most unusually beautiful wonders of the world.  Earthquakes are quite common in Turkey and thousands of years ago, earthquakes caused fractures that permitted hot springs with calcium carbonate rich water to reach the surface. Slowly the water evaporated and created numerous layers of Travertine that eventually built up similar to the way that stalactites form within caves.  

Greco-Romans realized the importance of the area and even built a town above the area called Heirapolis, or Sacred City and even said that the waters of the region had healing powers.

Cappadocia

Cappadocia is located in Anatolia and has amazing landscapes.  Chimney shaped rock formation have been formed due to numerous volcanic eruptions in the past leaving scenery that visitors are said to be mesmerized by. There

are also numerous underground cities in the area that are open for tourist to explore.  In addition, while staying at this unusual destination, visitors can choose to stay inside a cave hotel.

Bergama

For those that love history, Bergama is a must visit. Known by history buffs as the city of Pergamon, the area is littered with ancient monument that gives visitors a look in the ancient past of the area. In addition, the city is known for its mention in the Bible in the Book of Revelation.
