Unique Places to Sleep
It's been a while since we checked in with Wimdu, the vacation rentals website that links up travelers with property owners for a totally personalized experience abroad. Since the last time we wrote about their interesting assortment of rentals, they've added several new properties that are sure to appeal to travelers
searching for an off-beat place to rest their head every evening. Here's a few of our current favorites:
Skip a stay in a bland hotel for a truly spiritual experience in the Netherlands by booking a stay in this residential church. Formerly Saint Jakobus Church, the circa
1870 property has been carefully renovated into great, light-filled rental by Utrecht-based firm ZECC Architects. The 2-bedroom church is perfectly located within walking distance of many cafes, restaurants, and museums.
The Harlingen Harbor Crane is an industrial monument built in 1967 that's been turned into a cool apartment for 2 people. The interior is a like colorful light house with modern touches. Guests can take in amazing views of Harligen and the Wadden sea before actually operating the crane themselves (all at your own risk).
While there is no shortage of chic rental options in Paris, hip travelers on a budget should book a stay in this recording studio/apartment in the heart of the city. You'll be sleeping in a homey studio apartment while surrounded by a large array of musical instruments and recording consoles. Wake up with music in your head and record your masterpiece without ever leaving home. The best part? It's only €127 per night.
Not into music? If films are more your speed, try sleeping in a French cinema just steps from the Arc de Triomphe. Although this rental is only available during special occasions, it's a fantastic way for movie lovers to actually get inside of the films they love in one of the most-filmed cities in the world!
What comes after sleeping? Why, breakfast of course! The safari comes to you when you stay at Giraffe Manor, possibly the only place in the world where you can split your morning toast with a friendly giraffe. The former family compound turned luxury 10-room rental (each with en-suite bathroom), Giraffe Manor has the feel of an intimate home with all the amenities of a hotel. And did we mention the giraffes? MT
