A white Christmas… almost

Snowy LA................................(4476.jpg)

Yesterday morning at nine, I was driving home from my daughter's pre-school and noticed something different in my local landscape. Snow-capped mountains. Now, I should explain. I don't live in Denver. I live in LA. It doesn't snow here

We've just had a few days of torrential rain and blustery winds, but when I woke up yesterday it was sunny again. For a transplanted Brit, this came as a relief. I was, however, very excited about the snow. So excited in fact that I veered off my normal track and went exploring. I found a local hill that promised something of a view and navigated its residential streets 'til I found a clearing. A mound of slippery dirt. Having left home in a haze of morning disarray, I was wearing flip-flops, but I clambered to the top and took some pictures (above and top).

It was stunning. After a few minutes, I noticed a man in the adjacent house eyeing me with some suspicion and readying what could have been his attack dog, so I headed home to do some work. Three hours later, when I picked my daughter up, I drove up a higher hill in the car. The view was still beautiful (above), but all that remained were a few veins of white trickling down the same ridges. Our brush with a white Christmas had been a fleeting one. RM
