The Scenic Route, Tasmania

There's walking, and there's walking. You could walk to the local coffee shop with your iPod on and call that a walk. Or you could fly to Tasmania and hike the Overland Track.

If these pictures don't whet your appetite, you're probably an unashamed urbanite. The Overland Track, from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair, is a 60km wilderness trek through dolerite mountains, passing Tasmania's highest mountain, and finishing at Australia's deepest lake.

And it gets better. Book a six-day excursion with Cradle Mountain Huts, and you'll stop off every night at your own private bush hut.

At the end of each day's walking, there's a hot shower and afternoon tea waiting for you. And dinner after that.

Sounds heavenly. Looks heavenly. RM
