The Perfume Pagoda
In the north of Vietnam, there is a place of great beauty, with the greenest mountain valleys, gentle rivers meandering through them, and elegant people. This land has a temple with the most enchanting name. And you travel there on the oddest form of transportation.
It's looks like a punt, an ancient Druid boat which is still being used on the rivers of Cambridge and Oxford, and in it you will be rowed and punted by a husband and wife team, to the Perfume Pagoda.
The landscape of rice fields and ragged peaks is awe inspiring, and fills you with otherworldly feelings. The temple is calm. Even with the visitors. Perfect symmetry meets your eyes everywhere you look in the temple, from the beautiful brown brick work to the monks themselves. And the perfumed scent of the incense. AM
