Fishing at Verana
Verana doesn't have a professionally equipped fishing boat or any other professional equipment. When the resort's operators want to do some fishing, they take a small panga and catch fish using the same methods that fishermen in the village do. But sometimes simple methods can have amazing results, as these photos attest
Last week, a couple of guests visiting from Chicago took their own rods out for a little casual fishing and reeled in the biggest catches we've ever seen. Some of these fish were released back into the sea after being caught, but some were brought to Fabian for dinner. Verana's team of international chefs is more than happy to use fish caught by guests as part of the nightly three-course meal.
These guests were lucky enough to catch a sailfish — one of the fastest fish in the sea. Sailfish can grow up to 10 feet in length and weigh as much as 200 pounds. We really didn't expect that such large fish would be caught with such limited equipment, but we were pleased to be surprised!
