When you visit a place like Budapest, your imagination takes you on a journey, back to a bygone era, when the West and East fought a Cold War. Powerful images were needed to intimidate the enemy and brainwash societies. On the outskirts of Budapest, there is a little-known park where you can see reminders of the Communist era.
Statues of Communist heroes and soldier heroes litter this derelict field. It's a challenge finding the place, which makes the whole experience that much more rewarding. Getting there involves taking several local buses, and getting lost. A must after visiting the main tourist sites. AM
