Sydney Pool With a View - 03

When it opened in 1936, the North Sydney Olympic Pool was hailed as 'the wonder pool of Australasia'. And it's easy to see why. Built in the shade of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, it's a spectacular place to do laps.

Funnily enough, the accolade was less for the view and art deco styling, than it was for the tech at the time. Created by Ken Maher, it was the very height of modernity, with a high-tech filtration system and excellent facilities.

An impressive 86 world records have been set at the pool by athletes such as such Jon and Ilsa Konrads, Lorraine Crapp, Frank O'Neill, Judy Joy Davies, John Devitt, Shane Gould and Michelle Ford. Today its 50-metre heated pool, indoor 25-metre pool, gymnasium, sauna, spa and cafe are all open to the public.
