The World Beard and Moustache Championships
Attention, hirsute faces of the world! This past weekend in Brighton, England, the full-bearded and elegantly-moustached gathered to compete for prizes in the World Beard and Moustache Championships. Hosted this year by London's Handlebar Club, the event sought to encourage and celebrate standards of excellence in the growth, design and presentation of facial hair – and to put a smile on people's faces.
The event has categories for Moustaches (Natural, English, Dali, Imperial, Hungarian, Freestyle); Partial Beards (Natural Goatee, Chinese, Musketeer, Imperial, Freestyle, Sideburns Freestyle); and Full Beards (Verdi, Garibaldi, Natural Full, Natural Full with Styled Moustache, Freestyle). There's pretty much no limit to what can be created, especially in the Freestyle section. One competitor last year in Berlin moulded his beard into the shape of the Brandenburg Gate. Don't worry if you missed your chance to compete – they'll be at it again in Alaska in two years. RM
