The sun dress

He called to say he was leaving for Prague on Friday. He asked me what I was doing. I told him I just spilled iced green tea all over my dress. He seemed surprised that I was wearing a dress and asked me to describe it to him. I could have started with my shoes and what was underneath, but I only described the dress. “My friend Linda made it. It is a copy of a 50's sun dress made with Liberty cotton fabric from London. There are small red flowers with green leaves on a background of black.”

Yes, but how is it around your shoulders? he asked. “It's not strapless, or stappy,” I said. “It is modest with a scoop in the back and small ruffles around the neck.” And then there was silence on the phone. He was leaving the day after tomorrow, and I was wearing a sun dress. TP
