Watch Your Head
In Austria, at least, the world has turned upside down. For this extraordinary installation, House Attack, contemporary artist Erwin Wurm almost literally threw a small prefab house at the side of Vienna's Museum Moderner Kunst (MUMOK).
The house, says the sculptor who is known for his wry commentary on modern society, is symbolic of small-minded conservatism, which in this case explodes like a bomb into the institutional facade. The artist is harshly critical of urban sprawl, and is quoted as saying, “There are hundreds of thousands of houses and they are spreading like a plague, like a cancer, across our land.”
House Attack is part of Wurm's exhibition, “Keep a Cool Head”, at MUMOK until February 2nd.
