On first impression, a coffee table book about global transit maps doesn't sound all that exciting. But Transit Maps of the World: The World's First Collection of Every Urban Train Map on Earth is getting a lot of buzz – and not just among transport geeks. According to Robert Elms on BBC London, this is 'the sort of book you couldn’t imagine you needed until you got it and now you can’t imagine how you could do without it… It's fantastic!'

Widely hailed as a work of art (and emblazoned all over tourist souvenirs), it's pretty easy to use, but that's partly because it's been rearranged into neat lines that bear little resemblance to reality (below).
