Swiss spiral

By the side of Lake Stelli in Zermatt, Switzerland, stands a curious sculpture. It’s called Evolver, and it’s the creation of students at the ALICE studio at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.

It looks amazing, but it’s not just a pretty face. Like a spiralling DNA structure, it consists of 24 wooden frames forming a tube. Visitors can walk through it, travelling 720 degrees in total.

As they walk, the surrounding view of the lake and surrounding mountains (including the Matterhorn) changes constantly.

It’s a way of framing nature, seeing the world differently, from multiple angles. An evolving view of nature, challenging visitors to take new perspectives. A loophole on the skyline, as they call it. A journey that comes back to where it starts. Fun. RM
