Storefront for Art and Architecture

The Storefront for Art and Architecture, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing innovative positions in art, architecture, and design, has a unique exhibition space in New York City.

The Storefront façade was a collaboration between artist Vito Acconci and architect Steven Holl. They replaced the existing façade with a dozen pivoting panels so that the front of the gallery can be opened to blur the gallery boundary. A variety of different configurations are possible, allowing the gallery to adjust to its content and level of accessibility.
