London-under-the-Sea

Flooded London..........................(3491.jpg)

It seems everyone is thinking about the prospects for our world post-global warming, but I'm not sure I want to think about the possibility of London being submersed in water. I've spent many hours pounding its pavements, and I never was any good at rowing. Yet, a new exhibition Flooded London by Squint/ Opera doesn't paint an altogether dismal future for the city if the banks of the Thames are breached.

The digital images, set in 2090 but created in the style of Victorian landscape paintings, conjur up an almost idyllic setting where fish swim free round the gates of Buckingham Palace, swimmers dive inside the dome of St Paul's Cathedral, and roses grow wild in the streets of Clapham.
