Docking at sea
With cruise ships getting ever bigger, and space on land becoming limited, the idea of docking at sea doesn’t seem totally ridiculous. More and more architects are coming up with ways that we can make use of the oceans for habitation, so why not make use of them for other purposes too? Pictured above is Dutch architects Waterstudio’s vision for a floating cruise terminal.
Waterstudio designs with the intention of giving water a place in architecture. Concepts for buildings in and around water include an apartment complex called The Citadel, Stilthouses, and even a floating mosque.
The floating cruise terminal will be a destination in itself. It has enough room for three huge cruise ships to moor, while smaller boats can enter the complex through the lifted point of the triangular structure.
Inside there’s a giant mall, with shops, movie theaters and a hotel, as well as conference facilities. Maybe one day we’ll all be living at sea? RM
