A-Frame Cabin – Far Meadow.
Sunset, October 2009
Starting in the 1950s, the A frame cabin was the most popular vacation home type and a national phenomenon. It dotted ski slopes from Stowe Vermont to Squaw Valley, California and was a common sight in resort communities and forests and on back roads in between.
The steep slope of the A-frame roof is designed to help heavy snow to slide to the ground, instead of remaining on top of the house and weighing it down. In winter time we do have up to 16 feet of snow at Far Meadow and this made it very logical that we decided to look into ‘rediscovering’ the A frame design and gave it a modern spin. FAR MEADOW is our 20 acre parcel situated within the Sierra National Forest at an elevation of 7000 feet. 14 miles above Bass Lake on the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway, this property is surrounded by amazing meadows, secret swimming holes and miles and miles of undiscovered hiking trails. Your own private Yosemite without the crowds.

The A frame is totally off the grid, powered by solar energy. There’s no phone and no television, but rest assured – internet access is provided via satellite. It’s the perfect hideaway for the outdoor enthusiast who doesn’t necessarily want to rough it.
If you’re ever wanted to get off the beaten track, this is the place for you. Listen to the sound of stillness, walk for miles through the national forest, enjoy the beauty of this remote meadow.
Take the time to read all those books you’ve been meaning to. Gaze at stars. This large deck is perfect for unwinding.
When the snow falls, the cabin is only accessible by snowmobile.
Clean lines give the cabin a striking contemporary feel.
Who says the wilderness has to be uncomfortable? This cabin is simple and luxurious, modern and spacious (750 sq ft) with large windows overlooking the meadow and river.
Experience quiet in a whole new way. The upstairs sleeping loft looks out over the trees – you will sleep so well ..
This compact, playful kitchen is stocked with everything you’ll need… possibly more.
High ceilings and windows give the cabin a very contemporary feel.
Relax in the cozy living room… comfort and simple luxury in the entire cabin
Bathroom with extra large bathtub and state of the art shower..enjoy

Discover wild flowers that bloom throughout the spring and summer in hues of yellow, blue and white. And the lush green of the new meadow grass, that turns yellow then white, as the seasons change.
These meadows and wild flowers look almost too good to be true. But take it from us, they are.
Gentle streams run through the grass.
You never know what you’ll find.
Peace, tranquility.

Far Meadow in Winter. General Information. What to expect.
For the winter month, when our cabins can only be reached by snowmobile, we open Dec19 until April or May, depending on when the snow has melted and the road is open for regular access.
If you want to experience this unique location during those month you need to either own your own snowmobile or be competent to operate a snowmobile. This is mandatory since it will be the only way to get you out in case of an emergency.
It is about a 8 miles snowmobile ride to get up to the cabins and depends on the snow level, can be more or less. We require that you meet our guide and caretaker no later than 12 Noon the day of your arrival in order to get you out there.
If you can’t make it at that time we recommend that you stay at our ‘Basecamp’ on Old Yosemite Road in Oakhurst the night before and meet our guide there.
As you can see in the snowmobile pictures, our guide will drive his snowmobile and will be able to bring your limited luggage and supply with his snowmobile while one in your party will be driving an additional 2 seater snowmobile (Polaris Trail Touring DLX).
The snowmobile is included in our cabin rental rate and is mandatory for the duration of your stay. If you bring your own snowmobile we will adjust the rate.
While at the cabin you will have limited power supply (solar), a backup generator, internet access, skype (expect a fairly slow connection) and water. Water supply can vary and we cannot guaranty running water if weather conditions are too harsh.
We have been staying at the cabin without running water, so we melted the snow on the fireplace and used this water for washing, cleaning and the bathroom. There is plenty of wood available to burn in the fireplace and keep you comfortable warm.
Please remember that you need to have snowshoes to get anywhere. We do supply 2 pairs. There is drinking water available for you and the Log cabin kitchen is equipped with a propane stove, the A frame cabin with a smaller 2 burner cook top.
Overall, please accept that this remote location in winter is not for everybody. It can get a bit rough, you need to bring correct clothing and be ready to be ‘out there’ for the time being. Don’t forget your supply, it’s a long way to the next liquor store.
3 nights minimum

Far Meadow. Log Cabin
Intimate, simple, sometimes even a little primitive, the cabin is an American icon. Its appeal is both as a basic form of shelter and as a treasury of feelings, sensations and memories of family and friends. More than just a structure, the cabin is a way of life. Our cabin is located on a twenty acres piece of land in a remote meadow 7500 feet high surrounded by the Sierra National Forest. When we discovered Far Meadow, this classic American log cabin was already here. So we gave it a face lift, modernizing the roof and updated the interior. It’s close to the A-frame cabin, but in a world of its own.

The log cabin blends classic style with contemporary flair. We‘ve added a large deck outside for reading, napping, or contemplating the nearby river, trees and meadow.
Slow down the pace of your life. Time runs more slowly at Far Meadow.
Spend your nights around a camp fire, telling stories.

but corner windows bathe the interior in soft, romantic light.
Inside the cabin you’ll find a spacious room with a hardwood floor – and authentic wooden walls. There’s also a queen-size bed, a single bed and a sofa bed.
The real deal. The walls really are made out of logs, and shelves are stocked with books about the region.
It may be small, but the kitchen has been fully modernized and stocked with everything you’ll need when you arrive. But remember, you also have a BBQ outside. What would be a cabin without the BBQ ribs, links , potatoes and the almost ritual gathering around the fire pit.
Your own bathroom, Shower, hot and cold water – of course.
And what log cabin would be complete without a wood-burning stove? At night, or in winter, keep warm around the crackling fire.

Cross the little bridge through the pine trees, and you’ll find yourself in the meadow.
These meadows and wild flowers look almost too good to be true. But take it from us, they are.
Gentle streams run through the grass.
You never know what you’ll find.
Peace, tranquility.
And natural abundance.
At the far side of the meadow are rock formations which are great for climbing on. And all around the cabin, there are trails and Indian sites to discover.
