Starting in the 1950s, the A frame cabin was the most popular vacation home type and a national phenomenon. It dotted ski slopes from Stowe Vermont to Squaw Valley, California and was a common sight in resort communities and forests and on back roads in between.

The steep slope of the A-frame roof is designed to help heavy snow to slide to the ground, instead of remaining on top of the house and weighing it down. In winter time we do have up to 16 feet of snow at Far Meadow and this made it very logical that we decided to look into ‘rediscovering’ the A frame design and gave it a modern spin. FAR MEADOW is our 20 acre parcel situated within the Sierra National Forest at an elevation of 7000 feet. 14 miles above Bass Lake on the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway, this property is surrounded by amazing meadows, secret swimming holes and miles and miles of undiscovered hiking trails. Your own private Yosemite without the crowds.

The A frame is totally off the grid, powered by solar energy. There’s no phone and no television, but rest assured – internet access is provided via satellite. It’s the perfect hideaway for the outdoor enthusiast who doesn’t necessarily want to rough it.

Interested in weekend rental mid October 2009. Same questions as Mr. Rodenburg (9-8-2009) regarding weather concerns. Also, I live in LA and am a licensed contractor for tree work as well as an ISA certified Arborist with 30 years in the tree trade. Called your number (310 728 ****)and an employee indicated that you folks were in Topanga Canyon and might possibly entertain a swap-work-for-rental proposal. My thought was that, if interested, I could bid whatever you might need at our Topanga location and then perform the work as trade value to be used as payment for rental space. I would expect to perform the work prior to use of the cabin so as to insure your satisfaction that you were being fairly treated. But notwithstanding your interest (or lack of same) in barter, please do let me know about availability, weather and costs. And thanks for your time. Steve Marshall The Urban Lumberjack.com

    HI,

I was wondering if you could tell me the availability come late October / early November? I am interested in renting the cabin for 3 – 6 days depending on how we plan the trip. Also, I know the weather in unpredictable but is it likely that a car would not be able to get us there at that time of the year?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a better understanding of the area/cabin.

Please feel free to contact me and ask any questions.

    Thanks,
    Alan
