A-Frame Cabin – Far Meadow.
Sunset, October 2009
Starting in the 1950s, the A frame cabin was the most popular vacation home type and a national phenomenon. It dotted ski slopes from Stowe Vermont to Squaw Valley, California and was a common sight in resort communities and forests and on back roads in between.
The steep slope of the A-frame roof is designed to help heavy snow to slide to the ground, instead of remaining on top of the house and weighing it down. In winter time we do have up to 16 feet of snow at Far Meadow and this made it very logical that we decided to look into ‘rediscovering’ the A frame design and gave it a modern spin. FAR MEADOW is our 20 acre parcel situated within the Sierra National Forest at an elevation of 7000 feet. 14 miles above Bass Lake on the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway, this property is surrounded by amazing meadows, secret swimming holes and miles and miles of undiscovered hiking trails. Your own private Yosemite without the crowds.

The A frame is totally off the grid, powered by solar energy. There’s no phone and no television, but rest assured – internet access is provided via satellite. It’s the perfect hideaway for the outdoor enthusiast who doesn’t necessarily want to rough it.
If you’re ever wanted to get off the beaten track, this is the place for you. Listen to the sound of stillness, walk for miles through the national forest, enjoy the beauty of this remote meadow.
Take the time to read all those books you’ve been meaning to. Gaze at stars. This large deck is perfect for unwinding.
When the snow falls, the cabin is only accessible by snowmobile.
Clean lines give the cabin a striking contemporary feel.
Who says the wilderness has to be uncomfortable? This cabin is simple and luxurious, modern and spacious (750 sq ft) with large windows overlooking the meadow and river.
Experience quiet in a whole new way. The upstairs sleeping loft looks out over the trees – you will sleep so well ..
This compact, playful kitchen is stocked with everything you’ll need… possibly more.
High ceilings and windows give the cabin a very contemporary feel.
Relax in the cozy living room… comfort and simple luxury in the entire cabin
Bathroom with extra large bathtub and state of the art shower..enjoy

Discover wild flowers that bloom throughout the spring and summer in hues of yellow, blue and white. And the lush green of the new meadow grass, that turns yellow then white, as the seasons change.
These meadows and wild flowers look almost too good to be true. But take it from us, they are.
Gentle streams run through the grass.
You never know what you’ll find.
Peace, tranquility.

Imagine Yosemite without the tourist buses and the crowds. The possibilities are endless – meadows, giant trees, lakes, and rivers. Welcome to the peace of the High Country
You can hike to lakes and swim in crystal clear water .. that in August is not even cold !
Just a few miles up the road you can see the famous Globe Rock – it looks as if it could fall at any moment, but centuries of weather, earthquakes and humans have not moved this rock
Many swimming holes are near by.. you will need to hike a little, but what a reward !

Don’t get lost ! After the left turn on Bass Lake you go a windy road up for about 14 miles. Make sure you pass the sumit. After that you go down again until you get to ‘Jones Store’ on the left. You pass it and you know you are going the right direction. A mile after Jones Store the road splits and you keep going on the left !!!!! From here on ( about 1.8 miles) there are no major options. keep going until you see our SIGN and right here you turn right into the dirt road. Another mile and you are at FAR MEADOW. Welcome. It’s the beginning of July and we have been enjoying Far Meadow immensely. Our 2 cabins are ready for the first guests this season and our caretaker CHRIS and SONIA are looking forward not only to welcome you to your cabin but also to show our visitors some amazing places around the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway.
Every day we are discovering new spots, let it be swimming holes, waterfalls, magic flowering meadows or a simple new hiking trail around the property. The evenings are cool and the campfire is the perfect spot to gather and enjoy the peaceful surrounding. If you are interested in visiting us this summer, here are the Rates and for availability you need to contact us . On the next pages we have some more current images of our original Log Cabin and what you can do while visiting Far Meadow.
When you come to Far Meadow we offer all the amenities you might expect. We call it luxury camping. Both cabins are equipped with their own bathroom, shower, hot and cold water. Full kitchen, electricity (solar powered), Internet access and of course both cabins have an outside BBQ and inside a romantic fireplace to keep you comfortable warm – if needed.

Far Meadow in Winter. General Information. What to expect.
For the winter month, when our cabins can only be reached by snowmobile, we open Dec19 until April or May, depending on when the snow has melted and the road is open for regular access.
If you want to experience this unique location during those month you need to either own your own snowmobile or be competent to operate a snowmobile. This is mandatory since it will be the only way to get you out in case of an emergency.
It is about a 8 miles snowmobile ride to get up to the cabins and depends on the snow level, can be more or less. We require that you meet our guide and caretaker no later than 12 Noon the day of your arrival in order to get you out there.
If you can’t make it at that time we recommend that you stay at our ‘Basecamp’ on Old Yosemite Road in Oakhurst the night before and meet our guide there.
As you can see in the snowmobile pictures, our guide will drive his snowmobile and will be able to bring your limited luggage and supply with his snowmobile while one in your party will be driving an additional 2 seater snowmobile (Polaris Trail Touring DLX).
The snowmobile is included in our cabin rental rate and is mandatory for the duration of your stay. If you bring your own snowmobile we will adjust the rate.
While at the cabin you will have limited power supply (solar), a backup generator, internet access, skype (expect a fairly slow connection) and water. Water supply can vary and we cannot guaranty running water if weather conditions are too harsh.
We have been staying at the cabin without running water, so we melted the snow on the fireplace and used this water for washing, cleaning and the bathroom. There is plenty of wood available to burn in the fireplace and keep you comfortable warm.
Please remember that you need to have snowshoes to get anywhere. We do supply 2 pairs. There is drinking water available for you and the Log cabin kitchen is equipped with a propane stove, the A frame cabin with a smaller 2 burner cook top.
Overall, please accept that this remote location in winter is not for everybody. It can get a bit rough, you need to bring correct clothing and be ready to be ‘out there’ for the time being. Don’t forget your supply, it’s a long way to the next liquor store.

Silverstreak,Travel Trailer
The bullet-shaped Silver Streak is a cult classic, and we’ve always wanted to stay in one. That’s why we gave this 30 ft aluminium trailer a contemporary makeover and placed it in a great location. Today you’ll find it on Old Yosemite Road, just outside the National Park… but who knows where it will be tomorrow?
The best of both worlds. Compact living meets the great outdoors. You’ll find everything you need inside the trailer, but if you want to stretch your legs (or dine under the stars), it opens onto a large deck surrounded by oak and manzanita trees.
Stay right where you are, nestled among the trees. Or use it as a base camp for exploring Yosemite.
Park life. The trailer is surrounded in five acres of local flora – California Black Oak, Ponderosa Pine and Incense-Cedar.
The Silver Streak is waiting for you – see you soon!
The perfect home away from home for two – complete with living room, bedroom and bathroom. Original fittings have been retained, but updated with contemporary twists.
The kitchen is a real kitchen with plenty of storage space, and the living area has room for relaxing and eating
A complete bathroom with tub and shower The bedroom has 2 twin beds with super comfy mattress and pillows – you’ll sleep like a baby!
Placed in the perfect surrounding, you will love it.
Take walks into the past.
